Handle with Care Facilitator Training

Session Overview

ECDSS facilitators are certified by The Hincks-Dellcrest Gail Appel Institute to provide the Handle With Care – Facilitator Training. This session is designed to help practitioners engage with parents and caregivers, including those who work in early childhood settings, to promote the mental health of young children from birth to 6 years. The material is grounded in the science of early childhood and mental health and is sensitive to the day-to-day realities of families with young children. This workshop provides professionals with practical strategies which assume every parent and caregiver have the skills, potential resources, and wants what’s best for the children in their lives.


  • Understand the four Building Blocks of Handle With Care
  • Learn ways to teach parents and caregivers how to recognize their own and their children’s mental health with in the four Building Blocks:
    • Building Trust and Attachment
    • Promoting and Enhancing Self-Esteem
    • Expressing Emotions
    • Relationships with Others
  • Be able to demonstrate to parents and caregivers how to address the signs of mental health in their children and how to create strategies for promoting positive engagement skills
  • Practice strategies which create an engaging environment for parents and caregivers to participate in
  • Ready to share information and knowledge about mental health and the resources available to families in your community
