Description

Loss is a universal experience, one that we all share. However, mainstream culture, pioneering literature, and many people’s own beliefs frequently associate loss and grief with death. A perspective that prioritizes death-related losses has the potential to invalidate and disregard other common losses such as divorce, illness, loss of culture and/or identity, relocation, immigration, foster care, and natural disasters , to name a few. In order to support practitioners as they respond to the challenges encountered by the individuals and families that they work with, the focus of ECDSS’ 11th annual conference is A Broader Perspective: Exploring Current Understandings of Loss and Grief.

This one-day conference will unite renowned professionals and experts in the field with  conference registrants from the early childhood, human services, and education sectors to explore the current understandings of loss and grief research. Practitioners will be exposed to  effective practices and strategies, reflected in the current research, for supporting children, families and colleagues who have experienced loss. Through their participation, conference registrants will have the opportunity to expand their professional knowledge to more effectively understand and support the universality of loss and grief through a broader and more encompassing lens.
