This training will address the third pillar of knowledge and practice identified in the Foundations of Caregiver Support – Loss and Grief. Practitioners will focus on identifying the various forms of loss people experience and the variability of grief responses across the human experience. We will explore the role “meaning making” plays in the individual’s ability to actualize future goals and relationship. Participants will also walk away with strategies to use for supporting children and adults through the grief process and towards healing.
- Identify various forms of loss, from primary loss to ambiguous loss, to secondary and tertiary losses.
- Explore the spectrum of grief responses, focusing on the differences among children, youth and adults.
- Implement ways to support children, youth and adults within your existing practice as they move through the grieving process
- Engage in developmentally appropriate responses to the grief process and support individuals in meaning making.
