Responding to Trauma in Early Childhood
This one day workshop will explain the neurobiology and brain development typical in childhood. It will also explore how child development is impacted and effected if trauma occurs during this time. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of developmental trauma as well as trauma-informed strategies and effective practices for working with children who have experienced trauma.

Exposure to ongoing or repetitive trauma during childhood can interfere with healthy attachment and development and this is often referred to as developmental trauma (Arthur et al., 2013). Developmental trauma is so impactful because it happens while a child is developing, as well as it often occurs within a child’s care-giving system.
This one day training focuses on the neurobiology and brain development of a child and explores the impact and effects of exposure to ongoing or repetitive trauma in childhood. Practitioners will learn a variety of strategies of how to respond to and support children who may be experiencing trauma.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define and describe trauma-informed practice
- Identify the main principles of trauma-informed practice
- Define and describe developmental trauma
- Articulate the impacts and effects of developmental trauma on children
- Identify the signs and symptoms of developmental-trauma in children
- Implement trauma-informed strategies and effective practices when working with children
